About Hans-Peter

All my life I have been a knowledge glutton, constantly seeking new information to cram into my head. Learning is fun, and I enjoy doing it in my own way if I have the chance to take in new information I enjoy.

It’s my particular interest in culture that led me from the suburbs of Virginia to the desert landscapes of New Mexico, where I am now studying anthropology and food studies as a graduate student at New Mexico State University. When I’m not studying, I work at a natural history museum. I also write chocolate reviews for Seventypercent.com and articles for The Nibble.

But I love being active, whether outdoors or in a gym, and sometimes I feel restless when pent up inside all day. Going to the gym sometimes just doesn’t cut it. Enter Krystle.

Her intense interest in farming infected me too, so I started working at Mysterious Horizons in September 2006. Farming has not only piqued my curiosity but, combined with my already strong culinary interest, it has added a whole new dimension to my career aspirations.

Hello Hans-Peter and Krystle,

I found your site from a comment that Krystle left on one of my websites, http://www.culinarymuse.com ($8.00 eggs). Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I suspect that part of the $8 egg phenomena is a result of the hens laying less in the winter. But the price has not gone down this spring. The Ferry Building Market is the ‘Rodeo Drive/Disneyland’ of farmer’s markets. Whatever the market will bear and it bears a lot.

I am intrigued by Hans-Peter’s comment above about chocolate. You will probably enjoy my other website, http://www.TheArtofTastingChocolate.com.
I teach classes on how to taste and enjoy chocolate.
best,
Karletta

Hi Krystle,
I’ve recently taken over the Local Food Blog at Webbleyou (www.LocalFoodBlog.com) and in reading the comment archives, I came across yours. You have a great site here! I also enjoyed (and recommend to everyone I come across) Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma–it played a big part in crystalizing my interest in local foods.
Looking forward to visiting your site again,
Best,
Sandy Smith
